Hi everyone,
This Wednesday at 3pm in CB11.09.215, Ed will be presenting A Heterogeneous System of Systems Framework for Proactive Path Planning of a UAV-Assisted UGV in Uncertain Environments by Patrick Sherman and Nicola Bezzo.
Afterwards, we'll read through RA-L, Volume 10, Issue 1: https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/fJ8eCzvkyVCmVD2KDH4f9T9h0mf?domain=i…
Any papers we're interested in hearing more about will be added to the stack: https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/4dXrCANpgjC1q0Wj0U8hjTGfful?domain=d…
Revised Expectations
Last week we discussed how to reduce the amount of time we spend preparing presentations, now there are fewer of us attending CDMRG. The conclusion we reached was that presenters would choose between a "full" presentation (the sort of in-depth paper discussion we've been doing until now) and some kind of "secondary" presentation. The expectation is that about half of your presentations should be "full" and half "secondary", but it's up to the presenter to decide how much time they currently have to prepare when choosing their presentation type.
The exact content of a "secondary" presentation is open to interpretation, but it's expected to generate discussions lasting around an hour. The key thing is that it may be less effort to prepare, but should still be a worthwhile use of everyone's time, so "secondary" presentations don't lead to a "worse CDMRG experience" that week. Some ideas for this kind of presentation we came up with were:
*
Presentation of a high-level "magazine style" paper, for example from IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine
*
Watching longer videos together (e.g. tutorial videos or presentations) having prepared some talking points in advance, and pausing throughout to lead discussions
*
Your current work, in particular if there's a problem you're currently working on that you might want some help with
But if you can think of anything else you think the group would be interested in, feel free to present it! Hopefully this will mean we can all keep having a meaningful CDMRG experience while not consuming too much of everyone's time.
The next presenters after this will be:
- 05 March: Nick
- 12 March: TBC
See you all there!

Hi everyone,
This Wednesday at 3pm in CB11.09.215, Kosta will be presenting DiMSam: Diffusion Models as Samplers for Task and Motion Planning under Partial Observability by Xiaolin Fang, Caelan Reed Garrett, Clemens Eppner, Tomás Lozano-Pérez, Leslie Pack Kaelbling, and Dieter Fox.
After last week's meeting, a few of us were talking about how best to move on with CDMRG now we're down to 6 regular presenters. Preparing a presentation every 6 weeks could take more time than many people have. With that in mind, I'd like to have a brief chat about this with everyone this week (maybe just after Kosta's talk?). A couple of ideas could be:
*
Reduce meetings to every other week
*
Alternate between having a presenter and just reading a journal
*
Some kind of compromise between the two — perhaps everyone alternates between preparing a full presentation, and something with less time commitment e.g. choosing a paper for everyone to read through in more detail together
*
Try and arrange guest speakers
*
Continue as is
Please let me know if you have any other thoughts or ideas, and please generally have a think before Wednesday.
Afterwards, we'll read through T-RO, Volume 40 (2024) papers 176 — 200. That's page 8 if you view 25 papers per page at this link: https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/C9i6Cq71mwf7Z1KAWtZfzTEISKL?domain=i…
