Abstract: In this talk, I will first present our work on continuous distance fields for localisation, mapping, safe control, planning, rendering, grasping, human-robot interaction and multi-robot coordination using models that aim to approximate the solution of the regularised Eikonal equation. I will then turn to our work on continuous magnetic vector fields for active perception, localisation, and mapping, which rely on a divergence-free kernel. Finally, I will present our recent work on differentiable skill representations for learning by demonstration through deep reinforcement learning. Simulations and experimental results will demonstrate the performance of these representations. Bio: Teresa Vidal-Calleja is Professor and Research Director at the Robotics Institute at UTS. Her research spans robotics perception, unconventional sensing, SLAM, continuous mapping, and autonomous navigation, with applications across manufacturing, space, defence, construction, and logistics. She currently leads an ARC Discovery grant on flow field robotic perception and co-leads Program 1 of the Australian Robotics Centre. She is an IEEE Senior Member, Senior Editor for IROS, and Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Robotics and IEEE Transactions on Field Robotics. She obtained her PhD in automatic control, computer vision, and robotics from the Technical University of Catalonia, and was a postdoctoral fellow at LAAS-CNRS and the ACFR before joining UTS. [Everybody at ACFR] anechoic chamber in J17 - is it currently in use ?

ICT are proposing a major network upgrade/outage for J17 on Saturday the 29th of August. The chamber has several network sockets that will have no connectivity for the day. I'm pretty sure nothing is active in the chamber at this time, but does any one know of any equipment plugged into the network of ours down there (it will need to be reconfigured for Sydnet 6) or if an experiment that needs network connectivity would be in progress on the 29th of August. Please let me know, so I can give the ICT project manager the go-ahead (or not if there will be an adverse impact for an in-progress experiment that can't be worked around) from the ACFR side. This one is for J04 people - and only those hanging about J04 on a Sunday (or remote accessing machine J04 on a Sunday. I don't know the exact details, I assume a network core upgrade. To ensure continued reliability and readiness for the planned SydNet6 migration in Q3/Q4 2026, we will be undertaking network switch hardware upgrades across the affected buildings. During these works, wired and wireless network services will be unavailable for approximately 20–30 minutes per level within each building as the upgrade progresses. *Date: Sunday 28th June,2026 Start Time: 08:00 End Time: 18:00* Service Impact: * Rolling outage schedule across multiple buildings. * Approximate outage duration of 20–30 minutes per level, per building. * Both wired and wireless network services will be affected during the upgrade window. * Wired and wireless (Wi-Fi) network services will be unavailable during this change period, including the following: internet, intranet, VOIP phones, wireless services, printers, building management system, fire system, closed-circuit television, and Central Operations Services (COS) managed services.
