This one is for J04 people - and only those hanging about J04 on a Sunday (or remote accessing machine J04 on a Sunday.

I don't know the exact details, I assume a network core upgrade. The outage for the ACFR may only be partial due to the fact the ACFR specific networks are hosted in J18/J19 and not in J13 with the rest of engineering networks.

ICT Planned Network Maintenance

Dear colleagues,

As part of the ICT Network maintenance program, the existing network equipment has reached End of Support (EOS) status and is no longer supported by the vendor. To ensure continued reliability and readiness for the planned SydNet6 migration in Q3/Q4 2026, we will be undertaking network switch hardware upgrades across the affected buildings.

During these works, wired and wireless network services will be unavailable for approximately 20–30 minutes per level within each building as the upgrade progresses.

Date: Sunday 28th June,2026
Start Time: 08:00
End Time: 18:00

Service Impact:

  • Rolling outage schedule across multiple buildings.
  • Approximate outage duration of 20–30 minutes per level, per building.
  • Both wired and wireless network services will be affected during the upgrade window.
  • Wired and wireless (Wi-Fi) network services will be unavailable during this change period, including the following: internet, intranet, VOIP phones, wireless services, printers, building management system, fire system, closed-circuit television, and Central Operations Services (COS) managed services.

ICT Change Advisory Board (CAB) record: TBC

Further information on this upgrade is available on the Services Portal.

Important information:

·         'Network outage’ means that all wired ethernet network and internet services will be unavailable during the timeframe.

·         There will be no connectivity for any wired equipment that relies on the network or internet, including computers, printers, and audio-visual equipment.

·         Services such as building air conditioning, power and water will not be disrupted.

·         Work will be undertaken only in the communications rooms within the building (not in office spaces) and will not result in disruptive noise.

Action for you:

·         Forward this email to any colleagues who need to be aware of this upcoming building-specific outage.

·         Save any work that is reliant on network connections well before the work commences.

·         After the outage: people using a 'bring your own device' (BYOD) are strongly encouraged to use the wireless connection on their device, if a wired connection is required you will need to change the settings on the device to use the wired network connection.

·         Alternate campus work locations during this period;

University Library facilities

Learning Hub facilities
A number of Learning Hubs will be open and available 24 hours
